For eternity And for Him. Many times it aches. And it hurts. We want more, we yearn… God has placed eternity in our hearts. The longing for more… The desire to be connected to Him. Together with that longing comes an understanding deep in our hearts that there is more. More to be had. More than just this (whatever 'this' is). The answer to that constant, never-ending question in your heart is found in only one place. It is not a cause, or an ideology… It is not a theory or a belief. It is a person. He placed that yearning in your heart … for eternity. …and for Him. His name is Jesus. I call Him Saviour and Lord. ### Writing it down URL: https://josecolucci.org/writing-it-down/ Last updated: 2026-06-21T02:55:04.000Z I started this a hundred times in my heart. And then I didn't. I've been writing — on and off — for almost thirty years. Journal entries. Sermon notes. And more journal entries. Prayers on scraps of paper before the big meeting. The cries of my heart on paper. Reflections scribbled at six in the morning before the day swallowed me whole. Most of it lived in private notebooks and folders nobody ever saw. Some of it I forgot I wrote until I found it again and realized it still mattered. In January 2012, I wrote this to myself: *"I feel that much is being lost in my development because I am not writing things down. It is difficult to piece the entire message together when some valuable or relevant items are forgotten or left out."* I didn't know it then. But I was describing something I'd spend years trying to build — a written witness to what God has been doing in my life, one season at a time. This is that witness. Finally, somewhere people can find it. --- I'm a follower of Jesus. I preach occasionally. Have ran Sunday School and Children's Ministry Programs. I'm a husband, a son, a brother. I live in Houston. I was born in Costa Rica. Grew up in Canada. I think a lot about faith — not faith as a concept, but faith as the daily, invisible, necessary work of trusting that God is who He says He is and will do what He says He'll do. This site is where I put that thinking. You'll find four kinds of writing here. Reflections — honest, sometimes unfinished thoughts on God, life, Scripture, and the distance between what I believe and how I actually live. A Credo — my attempt to write down what I actually believe. Not a denomination's statement. Not borrowed language. Mine. It grows and changes as I do. Life Spaces — my attempt to crack the nut of work-life balance from a Christian perspective. I haven't figured it out. But I'm in the struggle with everyone else, and I'm writing it down. Digital Walk — what it looks like to document a life of faith in the digital age. The tools, the process, and the theology behind why it matters. --- Why now. Because the writing was always supposed to go somewhere. Because a thought that moves you is worth more when it moves someone else too. And because I've learned — slowly, reluctantly — that faithfulness in small things is where faith actually lives. Writing this down is one of those small things. I hope something here is useful to you. — Jose --- ### The Balance Act URL: https://josecolucci.org/the-balance-act/ Last updated: 2026-06-21T05:27:50.000Z *I wrote this on my first day back at work after two weeks in Hawaii in June 2023.* Recharged. Reinvigorated. Full of energy. And thinking about one phrase that is thrown around so much that it has lost all meaning. **Work-life balance.** I know I'm not the first person to say this. **But we got it all wrong.** There is no such thing as work-life balance. Because there is just one life and you are living it in multiple spaces. Within that one life, we work. We play. We eat. We sleep. We are moms and dads, brothers and sisters, daughters and sons. We clock in, and we clock out. But we never stop living. So stop trying to balance life against work. You only have one life. You need to protect it. --- Here's what two weeks in Hawaii reminded me. 1. **Live every moment. Be present. Enjoy.** Your presence makes memories. And memories come from being present in the moment. They come from closing your eyes in the middle of something beautiful and deciding to store it. Taking a mental snapshot of that moment in time. Capture it. Store it. I was deliberate about this in Hawaii. We all know memories fade. It happens. And I was conscious of this. So I kept closing my eyes, taking mental pictures, pressing them somewhere into my heart. Trying to slow the fade. I don't know if it works. But I know it felt like faithfulness to the moment. You see the value of a moment in your child's eyes. You feel it in your spouse's embrace. You relive it through childhood memories that still make you smile decades later. Don't miss it because you were somewhere else while you were there. --- 1. **It's okay to reconnect, even when you're supposed to be disconnected.** I am telling you this because I don't want you to feel guilty. I did it in Hawaii. Something came up. I plugged back in for a bit. And then unplugged. Don't beat yourself up. But also, don't let one moment of reconnection become an excuse to stay connected. Do what you need to do, and then go back to being present. No guilt, no fuss. Life is already unpredictable enough. One email doesn't have to unravel two weeks. --- 1. **If you are deliberate about it, you can disconnect** This one surprised me. I thought it couldn't be done. I was wrong. Disconnecting is a decision. It is your choice. It doesn't happen by accident. Set the boundary. Hold it. And discover — maybe for the first time in a while — what it feels like to be fully in your own life. --- 1. **Don't compartmentalize your life. You were never meant to.** You have one life. It includes your work, your family, your rest, your play. All of it matters. All of it is yours. All of it adds up to one. The question isn't how to balance work against life. The question is, are you actually living? --- *Written my first day back from Hawaii. Still feeling the sun.* *June 26, 2023* ### Consistency URL: https://josecolucci.org/consistency/ Last updated: 2026-06-21T03:53:37.000Z *Written October 2019 — published here as originally written... unfinished.* --- Time flies. We change... we mature... but sometimes we also regress. Take steps backwards after having advanced and made so much progress. How do we achieve consistency? How do we ensure that as we move... we are actually moving forward? *"Para atrás ni para tomar impulso..."* And through it all the Lord has been with us. Forward, stalled or even backwards and backsliding — He has been there. He always has and always will. Is there a process? What does the Bible tell us about being consistent? I think it is a combination of: - Sticking close to the Lord through prayer and the Word - Remembering all His goodness... the markers in our life that will remind us of His faithfulness - Remembering the future... yes the future! Because it is filled with His promises already waiting for us! *October 6, 2019* ### To Be in Awe Like a Child URL: https://josecolucci.org/to-be-in-awe-like-a-child/ Last updated: 2026-06-21T04:17:31.000Z As the airplane took off, I looked all around me. Almost everyone was reading something. Almost no one was looking out the window. Except, of course, for the child behind me, who had stopped kicking the back of my seat long enough to lend her full attention to what was going on outside her window. At what point in our lives do we stop enjoying those small things? At what point do we stop being awed by the beauty in simplicity? When do we lose our ability to enjoy the mundane? I was reading too, but I stopped and decided to enjoy what was going on outside my window. Everything was becoming smaller. People began to look like ants. The airplanes on the tarmac, the cars on the busy highway, and the trucks at the warehouses looked more and more like my old toy cars. The trees and the grass all began to blend into a beautiful mosaic of greenery. The clouds are looking more and more like white frosting. Yummy (and probably low fat too). Oh wait, now they look like a field of cotton balls. Perfect to jump into. And play. And play with my wife and son. How I miss them even on a short day flight! To think that one day we can all jump and play in those clouds. With Jesus. Strange, the child behind me stopped kicking my seat and slamming her tray. It is all quiet now. All quiet inside too. *Aug 19, 2009* ### The answers we want URL: https://josecolucci.org/the-answers-we-want/ Last updated: 2026-06-21T03:58:06.000Z From time to time we come across situations that rattle our theology… And leave us with many questions and no answers. A good friend of mine is grieving the death of his marriage. It is not only that he is a good friend. He is also one of my mentors… a person who has had an enormous impact on my life and ministry. I don't even know where to begin. Not even sure what to ask God. Or if I should just wait… The answer always comes. It is just that many times the answer we want or the answer we were trained to expect is not the one we get. Thank God He is our answer. And He is still in control. I will wait and pray. All I can do even when I don't understand. *May 29, 2013* ### Treating Symptoms URL: https://josecolucci.org/treating-symptoms/ Last updated: 2026-06-21T03:38:30.000Z We do it all the time. Eat poorly and then take the antacid. We do it in our personal lives and in our deepest thoughts as well. What we need is for our hearts to be transformed. Our hearts to be changed. There is only one way. God through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. *Originally written October 14, 2009*
